09 Mar The light at the end of the tunnel
Finally, 2020 is behind us! What a year it was. We have all been affected by a once in a century, pandemic. Changes in our daily life has affected us all, changes that most of us would never have imagined. In addition, we have seen so many other changes with social and racial unrest. Protests that have turned into riots. An election that raised questions about our democratic process. Then 2021 arrived and as we were trying to breathe a sigh of relief, we saw the rise of an insurrection which directly assaulted the core of our Capitol.
But now we see the roll-out of the COVID vaccines which is building up steam day by day. People are saying that they are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe there is hope after all.
Light and hope, the two go hand-in-hand.
Jesus said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:46
We find ourselves in the darkness of the tunnel. The tunnel of despair, from the pandemic; the tunnel of racial injustice; the tunnel of a democratic system that has been shaken. But Jesus offers a way out of the darkness of the tunnel. Believe in him.
Jesus also said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12. Again, He offers a way out of the tunnel. Walk with him. Live your life with, and for him.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5. The darkness we have endured in 2020 is only temporary. The darkness can not overcome the light. Yes, we see light at the end of the tunnel. We might jump to the conclusion that it is due to the vaccines that have come on the market. And yes, that does give us assurance, but we know where that light at the end of tunnel emanates from. It is a light that has been with us from the beginning. Not the beginning of 2021, but the beginning of time. It is where we place our trust and our hope. Rex Teeple
